Today we visited Suzdal, a town about 45 minutes away from where we are staying now (Vladimir). We had two girls from one of the universities join to translate. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to see three host mothers from Ivanovo!
Suzdal dates back to at least the year 1024. For centuries it functioned as the capital of several Russian principalities. Today, the town is mostly a tourist destination with many great monasteries and churches. We discovered that the Cathedral of the Nativity was actually used in a famous Russian film from the 1960s. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lunch in Suzdal was, as always, delicious and super filling!
Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to our host brother, Sergei. He went back to Moscow to work again tomorrow. Thankfully, I was able to teach him the new Russian word of the moment, "Super spasiba." It's catching on like wild fire!!

Weird - "Super spasiba" translates to "Super spasiba" according to Google. Can you help us Russian illeterates out?
ReplyDeleteIt means super thanks but I think the spasiba does not translate well into English. We are going to have to ask Sarah!
ReplyDeleteIt means super thanks! I could never remember the words to say "Thank you very much," so I started to say super. Now I add super to pretty much everything!
